Tryptophan from the Thanksgiving turkey must be having its drowsy effects on record stores this week, for it's one of the slowest of the year. And expect December to be all about rap and reissues. There are just about a dozen new CDs hitting stores, the same number of DVDs and even fewer re-releases. Here's a little bit of lovin' for most of them: Yo-Yo'ing: Ying Yang Twins' Chemically Imbalanced should score the highest debut this week — they opened at #2 on the Billboard albums chart the last time — unless they're bested by the Clipse's long-awaited, Star Trak-backed Hell Hath No Fury. Both discs have gone through some changes, incidentally: Chemically Imbalanced, which features Wyclef, was originally called 2 Live Crew. And Hell Hath No Fury, which sports spots by Pharrell and Slim Thug, has bounced around more times than a Harlem Globetrotter dribble. And the Beats Go On: Also hitting rap racks is La' Chat's fourth CD, Bad Influence, on which the lady gets a boost from Yo Gotti, Gucci Manne and Gangsta Boo. Old pals Three 6 Mafia didn't offer their help, though, what with her having signed to Three 6 rival Yo Gotti's Inevitable Entertainment. On outer fringes of the hip-hop front lies Dan the Automator's Dan the Automator Presents 2K7 Instrumentals, the speechless answer to September's Dan the Automator Presents 2K7. That one found the beatman tinkering with tracks by Ghostface, E-40 and Lupe Fiasco. And on the rap-reissue side, there's Public Enemy's Beats and Places, the subtitle to which pretty much says it all: Soulpower of the Unleashed and Unreleased. That one boasts a 2002 version of "Do You Wanna Go Our Way???" from San Francisco's Fillmore, "If I Gave You Soul (What Would You Do With It?)" and a couple of versions of "Air Conditioning." No Longer Incubating: If Incubus' Light Grenades don't explode on the charts, it should at least be the best-debuting rock release you'll see this week. The band's fifth effort includes the head-scratchingly named "Pendulous Threads" and "Paper Shoes." My Fair Lady: Our Lady Peace get the career-overview treatment this week with A Decade, reminding fans that they've had more #1 rock singles in Canada than any band ever. Two new songs, "Kiss on the Mouth" and "Better Than Here," accompany the decade-old group's first-ever best-of disc. Foo's Ball: Speaking of firsts, the Foo Fighters just eked out their first-ever concert recording in the form of Skin and Bones earlier this month. But rather than releasing it as a CD/DVD package, the band's making fans go the extra mile by putting out a sold-separately video of the same name this week. You'll find five additional songs that didn't make the CD on here instead: "On the Mend," "Still," "See You," "What If I Do" and "Ain't It the Life." The Other Fu: California boogie men Fu Manchu are slipping out just 3,000 copies of Hung Out to Dry, an EP that's serving as a preview of sorts to next year's yet-untitled 10th full-length. This one has two tracks from that LP, plus the original "Never Again" and a cover of Van Halen's "D.O.A." But best of all, the EP comes with a 7-inch single and is packaged in a gatefold sleeve. Jonesin' for Indies?: Never to be overlooked are a few under-the-radar releases also happening this week. The never-say-die Figgs celebrate nearly two decades of existence with Follow Jean Through the Sea, which has 10 tracks and, like Fu's upcoming LP, is also their 10th. Pop-rockers Johnny Action Figure Asks the Room to Please Stop Spinning with a new effort. It's got the sunny "Lose Our Face," melodic "(This Is How I Look) When I Laugh at Death" and Neil Young-esque "Your Fortune's Gonna Leave You." Wrapping It Up With Reissues: Last but not least, a swab of re-releases are also making their way into the racks. David Gilmour's On an Island, which originally debuted on the Billboard albums chart top 10, is being beefed up with a bonus DVD. That finds the Pink Floyd guitarist running through six songs as part of the AOL Sessions in April, plus it's got a new rendition of now-deceased bandmate Syd Barrett's "Astronomy Domine," which Gilmour tracked at London's famed Abbey Road in August. A new NRBQ DVD — this one with the Whole Wheat Horns — culls vintage material by the batty cult fave. "Derbytown: Live 1982" showcases 16 live recordings from a Louisville, Kentucky, gig. And Candlelight Records continues hailing doom deacons Electric Wizard with Pre-Electric Wizard Rarities 1989-1993. Singers swap spots as Ying Yang Twins score the highest chart debut.

The music industry must be glad to be rid of 2005. Overall album sales nosedived a whopping 8 percent from 2004's figures — the sharpest sales tumble since 2002. And the year didn't end on a positive note. According to the latest SoundScan figures, all but eight of the week's 200 biggest-selling records suffered sales declines during the last week of the year — and five of the eight are newcomers to Billboard's albums chart. But that shouldn't matter much to Jamie Foxx. The Oscar winner turns the tables as his second album, Unpredictable, knocks Mary J. Blige's The Breakthrough to #2 after taking a backseat to the R&B diva on the previous chart. With nearly 200,000 copies sold, Foxx's Unpredictable bests week-two sales of Blige's Breakthrough by close to 7,000. U.S.A. (Still United), the Ying Yang Twins' re-imagining of their hit LP U.S.A. (United State of Atlanta), was one of the chart entrants that didn't finish in the red. U.S.A. (Still United) was also the highest charting of the week's five debuts, taking the #45 spot with 35,000 scans. Greatest Hits, a collection of songs by late 1950s teen idol Ricky Nelson, opened at #102 with sales of nearly 18,000. Detroit rapper Trick Trick's The People Vs. Trick Trick debuted at #115 with nearly 16,000 copies sold. The soulful sophomore release from Goapele, Change It All, claims the chart's #139 position with week-one sales of more than 13,000. And Sevendust's Best of Sevendust (Chapter One: 1997-2004) opens at #156 with over 11,000 sales. Panic! At the Disco's A Fever You Can't Sweat Out (which finished at #88 with 20,000 copies sold), a Christian music compilation titled Open the Eyes of My Heart (#109, 17,000) and Underoath's They're Only Chasing Safety (#183, 9,000) were the only three non-debut discs on the chart to see an increase in sales. Eminem's Curtain Call: The Hits climbs one to #3. The rapper's retrospective release sold close to 186,000 copies, bumping Notorious B.I.G.'s Duets: The Final Chapter to #4 with nearly 150,000 sales. America's newest "Idol," Carrie Underwood, holds on to the chart's #5 post, selling around 135,000 copies of her debut, Some Hearts. The 20th installment in the Now That's What I Call Music! compilation series finished in sixth place with 104,000 scans — just enough to relegate Nickelback's All The Right Reasons to the #7 spot with 103,000 copies sold. Mariah Carey takes #8 this week, selling more than 102,000 copies of The Emancipation of Mimi, and the Black Eyed Peas' Monkey Business finishes at #9 with more than 97,000 copies sold. United They Stand: U.S.A. (United State of Atlanta) has racked up a platinum award and potential Grammy gold for the Ying Yang Twins, who are feeding off the success of their burgeoning hometown. Now they're spreading their pride with U.S.A. (Still United), an audio/visual combo package that lumps together 13 rare and remixed tracks with the videos for "Shake" and "Wait (The Whisper Song)," which will compete at the Grammys for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. Tracks include "Ms. New Booty" (Bubba Sparxxx featuring Ying Yang Twins and Mr. Collipark), "4 Oz" (featuring Three 6 Mafia) and a remix of "Shake" (featuring Pitbull and Elephant Man). Has the Dust Really Settled?: Sevendust tried to put their acrimonious split with longtime label TVT behind them with the October release of Next, which reigned atop the Billboard Top Independent Albums chart for two weeks. But it looks like TVT is trying to have the last word with Best of Sevendust (Chapter One: 1997-2004), hitting stores just three months after the new studio record. "Bender" (featuring Deftones' Chino Moreno), "Follow" (featuring Staind's Aaron Lewis) and the Tom Lord-Alge mix of "Waffle" all make their way onto Chapter One, as do four hard-to-find tracks, including covers of Marvin Gaye's "Inner City Blues" and Alice Cooper's "School's Out." Mo' Better Motown: Detroit's unsung hip-hop hero Trick Trick has already sold 4 million records on the indie circuit — that's right, 4 million. Now he's finally making the jump to a major with The People Vs. Trick Trick, which gets endorsements by Motown's not-so-unsung hero, Eminem ("Welcome 2 Detroit" and "No More to Say," also featuring Proof), Jazze Pha ("Attitude Adjustment") and Obie Trice ("War"). The Revolution Will Be Remixed: People-power post-punks From Monument to Masses are committed to getting their listeners to commit to social activism. A flurry of artists have signed on for the cause as well, culminating in the remix record Schools of Thought Contend. The album revisits tracks from FMTM's first two records, including "The Quiet Before (Thunderbirds Are Now! Remix)," "Comrades & Friends (Loquat Remix)" and "To Z (Repeat) (Last Defender of the One True Waveform Remix)." Schools of Thought Contend actually won't drop until New Year's Eve, so you lefties won't be able to ché-ck it out until then. Getting Krafty: Kraftwerk didn't truly represent their visually intensive concerts with this summer's two-CD Minimum-Maximum, so the pioneering blip band issued a double-DVD set of the same name earlier this month. Fans who held out from buying either will be filled with glitch glee over a limited release housing both. The Minimum-Maximum box is also bolstered by an 88-page booklet with unreleased photos and techie instrument data, plus the notebook-style packaging has a "lenticular" image on the flipside of the lid, giving the box a laptop look. Missy Elliott's out of surgery, but she's not out of the woods. The rapper went under the knife for two and a half hours at a private Manhattan hospital on Wednesday to repair a torn Achilles tendon, which she injured during a rehearsal for the TV Guide Emmy party. Missy's at home recuperating, and her rehabilitation could take six to 12 months. "Tearing your Achilles is no joke," Elliott said in a statement. "I can't even tell you how much pain I'm in, but I'm happy the surgery went well, and I want to thank everyone for their concern." Because of the injury, Missy canceled an appearance at VH1's Hip Hop Honors as well as a show in London on October 10, but she still plans to perform in New York on October 8. She's due back for a follow-up with her doctor on Tuesday. ... "American Idol" runner-up Bo Bice and his wife, Caroline, had a baby boy on Saturday, the rocker's rep said. The 29-year-old singer named the boy Aiden Bice. ... The Dirty South's most crunked-out duo, the Ying Yang Twins, are making the leap to the big screen. The two are slated to start filming their first flick, a comedy titled "Viagra Falls," next year. The project will feature the Twins as two buddies from Atlanta trying to raise enough cash from their dead-end jobs to fund a spring-break trip to Daytona Beach, Florida, according to the Hollywood Reporter, but their plans take an unexpected turn once the guys get a hold of a box of Viagra. ... The Biggie duets LP fans have been hearing about for years is finally about to drop: The Notorious B.I.G. Duets: The Final Chapter is due November 29. The first single, a duet by Big and Bob Marley called "Hold Ya Head," has just been released. The record was produced by Clinton Sparks, who's best known for his mixtapes. ... Hilary Duff is "so excited" to turn 18 on Wednesday, she wrote Monday on her Web site. "The countdown has begun!" she posted. "Thanks to everyone who has sent birthday cards and letters; I can't read them all, but the letters that I have seen were great and very much appreciated." ... The upcoming Nirvana compilation Sliver: The Best of the Box (November 1) features three previously unreleased tracks: "Spank Thru" (from the notorious 1985 Fecal Matter demo tape), the 1990 studio outtake "Sappy" and a rehearsal recording of "Come as You Are" from before the sessions for the band's breakthrough Nevermind album. The rest of the 19 songs are taken from last year's odds and sods collection, With the Lights Out, including a live version of Led Zeppelin's "Heartbreaker" from the band's first gig, solo acoustic versions of "Lithium" and "Rape Me" and a rehearsal recording of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" with slightly different lyrics. ... Frontman Fred Durst and guitarist Wes Borland are currently writing material for the next Limp Bizkit studio disc. ... System of a Down will congregate outside Representative Dennis Hastert's Batavia, Illinois, office Tuesday at noon, along with members of the Armenian National Committee of America, Axis of Justice and the Armenian Youth Federation as well as dozens of System fans. They hope to persuade the House Speaker to hold a vote on pending legislation that would officially recognize Turkey's destruction of 1.5 million Armenians between 1915 and 1923, according to a press release. Despite expressing public support for the measure five years ago, Hastert has twice prevented the Armenian Genocide legislation from coming to a full vote in the House. MIAMI — Beyond the music, fire and water, there was plenty of action at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards that the cameras couldn't catch ... the odd meet-ups and match-ups. We were backstage and behind the scenes to catch it all: In the backstage talent-holding area, two huge screens played the show for guests, who also got to feast on a spread that included skewered chicken, lobster, shrimp and an open bar. Shaquille O'Neal hung out there for a while with fellow baller Dwyane Wade, but when Jessica Alba walked in he gave her a hug that lifted her off the ground. Shaq also made sure to tell Common how much he liked his music as the conscious rapper watched Ludacris and Bobby Valentino's performance on one of the screens. Luda and Bobby V., incidentally, had to run — literally — to hit the stage on time. While Kanye West performed with Jamie Foxx onstage (see "Green Day Clean Up, Kelly Clarkson Gets Wet, 50 Rips Into Fat Joe At VMAs"), Jessica Simpson, the Black Eyed Peas' Fergie and Paulina Rubio grooved backstage. The trio gathered around a TV in a plush green room, laughing and shaking their hips to West's beat. A bit later, the three took turns admiring each other's dresses (see "Stars Rise To Diddy's Challenge With Hot Fashion On The VMA White Carpet"), with Fergie tugging at Simpson's plunging hemline. Elsewhere, O.J. Simpson and his crew — one of whom was wearing a bright yellow jacket with a drawing of Michael Jackson's face on the back — walked down the hallway. O.J. said, "What are we doing backstage? I'm ready to go to the afterparties." Nearby, Yellowcard's Ryan Key moseyed up to the bar and shook hands with Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington. The three chatted for a minute, then pulled out their BlackBerries and exchanged numbers. Quincy Jones made the rounds, chatting up Ashlee Simpson and her band, shaking hands with Nelly and huddling in a corner with Black Eyed Pea Will.I.Am. A few minutes later, Will could be seen laughing with Common and Jeremy Piven. Apparently taking a liking to Piven's suit, Will pulled back the actor's lapel to inspect the label. Minutes after winning the Moonman for Best New Artist, the Killers posed with their hardware and accepted congratulations from David Banner. As they were hustled to the press room, frontman Brandon Flowers turned to guitarist Dave Keuning and sighed, "I always forget someone in those speeches. Did I remember to thank [director] Sophie [Muller]?" "I don't know," Keuning said. "Did you remember to thank Eric Roberts?" Early on, Green Day looked like punk presidents as they arrived, waving and blowing kisses atop a banged-up convertible. After displaying their sufficiently un-pimped ride with Sway, they did laps around the pre-show stage, shaking hands with fans and leaping on the hood of their car. After clearing the stage, they ran into members of 50 Cent's G-Unit posse, giving them hearty hugs and handshakes. As Rihanna and her dancers warmed up beside the stage before performing "Pon De Replay" on the pre-show, Sway stopped by to give them some pointers and encouragement, reminding them to smile, because they were about to play the biggest stage they'd ever been on. Racecar driver Jeff Gordon seemed a bit perplexed, arriving between a glittering Paul Wall (who displayed his glistening grill and massive pimp-cup necklace to cheering fans) and the bellowing Ying Yang Twins. As they posed for photographers, D-Roc asked the crowd, "How y'all like this heat?" and then — without knowing — dropped his "artist access" pass on the white carpet, sending fans into a wild scramble. The pass was eventually returned to Roc by a beefy security guard. Never one to play by the rules, Bishop Don "Magic" Juan's SUV passed its mark on the white carpet by several hundred feet. As an MTV worker started giving the SUV's driver an earful, Juan advised the employee, "It's all chuuuch, baby!" Akon had some auto-related problems as well. He wheeled his cherry-red Ferrari onto the pre-show stage's ramp, ready to drive it onto the rotating display (see "Snoop, Game, Luda And Shaq Show Off Their Donks And Drop-Tops"), but the plan seemed a complete surprise to event security. They stopped his car and removed it from the ramp, which left Akon standing rideless and clueless for a good five minutes before he was whisked away onto the white carpet. Lil Jon and Carmen Electra hugged and exchanged pleasantries atop the arrivals area, the king of crunk eyeing her up and down, giving her a twirl and saying, "Damn, that dress looks delicious." Jon then stepped aside and hugged a Cohiba-smoking Kanye West, laughing and asking for a drag from the pricey stogie. Good Charlotte's Benji and Joel Madden created a logjam atop the arrivals area, giving daps to Houston rappers Slim Thug and Mike Jones, taking time to admire Jones' sparkling fronts. Their attention quickly shifted to the Neptunes' Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, who arrived on the white carpet with a pair of scantily clad girls handing out ice cream treats to cheering fans. Ice-T kidded the suddenly blowing-up Jones, making a phone gesture with his hand and yelling, "Ay, Mike, I tried to reach you, but you ain't picking up the phone. I wanna do something with you, man." T then turned his attention to Williams, shaking his hand while Pharrell bowed in reverence. Gwen Stefani and Lil' Kim embraced on the carpet, showering each other with kisses and compliments. "You look fabulous!" Gwen gushed. "Darling, you do too!" Kim countered. Lindsay Lohan arrived on the white carpet in a massive SUV, and after she exited, a seemingly endless stream of her friends, stylists, bodyguards and publicists followed behind her. As she made her way past the photographers and up the carpet, she shook hands with Jay-Z — interrupting a powwow between him and Snoop Dogg. But no one seemed to notice, as all three smiled and laughed while waving to cheering fans. Hulk Hogan's family made the scene, taking pictures with Game. Later, Hogan asked Juelz Santana to take pictures with his daughter Brooke on the white carpet — he obliged. Akon and Kim Porter hugged while the Ying Yang Twins yelled and flashed the gold in their mouths. Young City (a.k.a. Da Band's Chopper) ran across the white carpet to hug Kim as well. On Saturday, well before the awards kicked off, dozens of heavyweights made their way to the American Airlines Arena to greet the press, pimp projects and schmooze. The annual VMA Radio Forum is designed for artists to kill a bunch of birds (i.e. radio station interviews) with one stone, but it's also a major networking event and there was plenty of that this year. When Lil Scrappy crossed paths with labelmates Green Day, the rapper went right in for the gold. "We need to hook it up," he told Billie Joe Armstrong. "You guys should give me a beat." "Leave your number with my publicist," the frontman replied. "We met Mr. Scrappy, we saw the boys in Good Charlotte — we've seen a lot of gold teeth," Billie Joe said later. "And some pimp cups and the Ying and the Yang," bassist Mike Dirnt added. Good Charlotte, on hand to support Green Day and other friends (My Chemical Romance and the Game, according to singer Joel Madden), also rubbed elbows with the Ying Yang Twins and Alicia Keys. "She was very nice," Benji Madden said. "Usually people come up and say they like our band, so it's a great place to make new friends. It's like going to summer camp." Keys went straight to the arena after arriving in Miami, so she was anxious to get out and see the city. "I do plan to go into the water," the singer said. "I love to swim, I think I might want to do some water skiing or some wave-running or some fishing, something that involves a boat and water." The Bravery are new to Miami but were having no problem navigating the city thanks to a certain video game. "It's just like 'Vice City,' " singer Sam Endicott said. "We didn't realize how accurate it is to the video game. We were driving down the street and our drummer started freaking out, 'You don't know how many times I've crashed a Porsche into that building!' " As he navigated from interviewer to interviewer, Usher literally bumped into My Chemical Romance, whom the R&B star was eager to meet — even if he had a strange way of showing it. "Hi Steve, I'm Usher," he said to the band's singer. "Hi, I'm Gerard," the frontman replied with a smile. It's OK, Usher; it's hard to keep track of everyone's names. Just ask Brooke Hogan, who made the rounds with her family. "We went to a big party last night and we got to meet ... oh, I can't remember her name," she said. "Mom?" "You can't remember Mariah Carey? Hello!" Linda Hogan responded. "That was the highlight of the whole weekend. She's like a princess." My Chemical Romance spent the majority of the radio forum stifling yawns, but not because they were bored: They had just flown overnight from England, where they played both the Reading and Leeds music festivals. Ol' Glory: Ol' Dirty Bastard may be gone, but in this post-Tupac world, that doesn't mean he can't still make some moves. A Son Unique is not only his first release on Def Jam, it's also the first to attribute the music to "ODB," not "Ol' Dirty Bastard," on the album art. Songs include a cover of "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" with Macy Gray, "Intoxicated" and "Skrilla." Five — And Still Alive: Bewildered by the title of Staind's Chapter V? Time to hit the bins. While many thought 2001's Break the Cycle was their debut, and those who looked a little deeper unearthed 1999's Dysfunction, Tormented, an independent album from 1996, actually began the band's cycle. Chapter V might sound like a turning of the page, but Aaron Lewis seems as tormented as ever with "Cross to Bear," "Runaway" and "King of All Excuses." A Motley Crew: Tommy Lee's invited some major — and majorly bizarre — guests to his TommyLand: The Ride, including Nick Carter, Good Charlotte and Slash, but by releasing the record through a tiny Michigan-based distributor, sales could be a challenge. Then again, Lee has drawn plenty of attention in the past by slipping out his stuff through, uh, less traditional means. Songs include "Makin' Me Crazy" with Dirty Harry, "Sister Mary" and "The Butler." The Search Is Over: More than three years after it was first announced, D12's Proof is finally dishing up Searching for Jerry Garcia, a follow-up to 2002's Electric Cool Aid: Acid Testing EP. He's tweaked the original concept, which was for each song to be named after a musician or icon ("Janis Joplin," "Billie Holiday," etc.), although he did retain "Kurt Kobain." He's also padded the LP with some red-hot guests: 50 Cent ("Forgive Me"), D12 ("Pimplikeness"), Obie Trice ("72nd & Central") and Nate Dogg ("Sammy Da Bull"). Chopped & Served: Swishahouse Records owner Mike "5000" Watts is fine-tuning his chopped-and-screwed skills for retouched versions of Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz's Crunk Juice and the Ying Yang Twins' U.S.A. (United State of Atlanta). Stones Galore: Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ron Wood roll onto Tim Ries' The Rolling Stones Project and contribute to the album design; Wood also surfaces on the Jones Gang's Any Day Now, a record he also did the cover art for; and a reissue of the Blasters' 4-11-44 includes a bonus video of "Daddy Rollin' Stone." Chimaira - Chimaira (Roadrunner): Hardcore heroes Chimaira pay tribute to a fallen comrade, Dimebag Darrell, on "Nothing Remains," one of 10 tracks featured on their self-titled fourth record. "Lazarus" is another tribute, this time to a friend who committed suicide, while "Left for Dead" and "Comatose" deepen the somber mood. Tremolo - Love Is the Greatest Revenge (Flagship): The Bay Area band is putting its money where its mouth is — literally. The benevolent bunch — which has been heard on numerous MTV shows — is donating 50 percent of the proceeds from its debut to the Love>Revenge Fund, a site that, through online voting, allows fans to decide where the trust fund money should go to. Various Artists - Def Jazz (Verve): Yup, you guessed it: a collection of smooth-jazz versions of rap faves commemorating the 20th anniversary of Russell's baby. Unlike the ever-present Pickin' On tributes, however, this endeavor brings in veritable talent like Roy Hargrove and Gerald Albright — and tosses in a version of "Bring the Pain" with flute and Moog to boot. HOLLYWOOD — Nick Cannon is no stranger to comedy. The aspiring funnyman first honed his stand-up skills at the age of 12 and four years later he was already landing gigs at famous venues like the Comedy Store, the Improv and the Laugh Factory. Now the 24-year-old is revisiting his roots with his new sketch-comedy program, "Wild 'N Out," debuting July 28 on MTV. The show's roster is an eclectic blend of rap, hip-hop and comedy performers. "It's amazing. I just got all my comedic friends together, introduced them to my hip-hop friends, and we just created this big, huge improv sketch-comedy show that's unlike anything you've ever seen on television," Cannon told MTV News backstage at the BET Awards. "Common came through. Kanye West, the Ying Yang Twins, Method Man, [Cannon's longtime girlfriend] Christina Milian. Comics like Kat Williams and Wayne Brady. It's just like a party in every episode." Ever the industry chameleon, the multi-tasking Cannon also has five films in the works (see "Nick Cannon Flexing His Mogul Muscle In Hollywood"), plus his sophomore LP, Stages, which drops this fall. The video for the album's first single, "Can I Live" featuring Anthony Hamilton, which Cannon directed, recently debuted at #1 on BET. Longtime friend Kanye also worked on the new record, which will include a track featuring Talib Kweli. "The record I did with Talib was real soulful stuff," Cannon said. "I was just trying to express myself more than anything and really get out what was inside of me. On my last album, I worked with R. Kelly and P. Diddy, and that was amazing, but I didn't feel like I really put myself out there. On this I feel like I [did] and showed what I could do as a producer, as an artist and as a musician." As for the slew of films in his arsenal, the actor is most looking forward to "The Underclassman," a Miramax project he stars in, wrote and produced. Out August 5, the film features Cannon as a baby-faced detective struggling to gain respect from his peers. When he is sent to investigate the murder of a posh private school student, he stumbles upon an underground auto-theft ring. "It's like the new 'Beverly Hills Cop.' It's my baby," the actor said. "It really is like watching your kid go to school on the first day. You just hope for the best. But however it does at the box office, it doesn't matter. I'm proud of it, and how often can somebody say that a kid who's under 25 actually wrote, produced and starred in his own film? So that's an accomplishment in itself." Next up, Cannon can be seen alongside Bow Wow in the '70s-inspired roller-skating flick, "Roll Bounce," dropping September 23. Currently, he's filming the political thriller "The Beltway," for which he's also executive producer. Finally, the actor will play the brother to Forest Whitaker in the indie gambling drama "Even Money" (formerly titled "Jump Shot"), featuring Hollywood heavyweights Ray Liotta, Kelsey Grammer, Kim Basinger and Danny DeVito. The film, which incorporates multiple story lines à la "Crash" and "Traffic," is slated to hit theatres later this year.

In a way, history repeats itself on the next Billboard album sales chart. After three weeks of ruling record sales, Coldplay have been overthrown, and it took a honky-tonkin' American — country legend George Strait — to end the British band's reign over the albums chart. Somewhere Down in Texas, Strait's newest offering, claims the chart's #1 spot, moving close to 245,000 copies its first week out. Strait's latest shelves Coldplay's run at the top, jostling the rockers' X&Y two spots to a fourth-week #3 finish; X&Y netted sales of more than 140,000 this time around, according to the latest SoundScan data. United State of Atlanta, the fifth album from Hotlanta party rap duo the Ying Yang Twins, also bested X&Y in this week's record-sales showdown, opening as Billboard's new #2, thanks to debut-week scans of more than 201,000. The Ying Yangs were predicted to chart high, having crafted one of the nation's biggest radio singles in "Wait (The Whisper Song)." Mariah Carey's The Emancipation of Mimi has emerged as one of chart's most consistent entries. Twelve weeks after its initial release, Mimi has shifted close to 2.3 million units, and continues its solid sales performance with more than 130,000 copies snapped up this week — enough to secure Mariah Billboard's #4 spot. That's quite a comeback. After George and the Twins, this week's third-highest debut belongs to Philadelphia rapper Cassidy's I'm A Hustla. The MC, currently being held without bail on murder and weapons charges, opens at #5, having sold close to 93,000 copies of his new LP during its first week of release. The Black Eyed Peas' latest, Monkey Business, checks in at #6, with week-four sales of close to 90,000, finishing just in front of In Your Honor, the newest album from Foo Fighters. The double disc from Dave Grohl and company takes the chart's #7 position, selling just under 88,000 copies at the end of its third week in stores. America's first "Idol," Kelly Clarkson, takes the chart's #8 spot thanks to her disc Breakaway's 62,000-plus showing. Clarkson's album managed to clear the mark of 2.5 million sold after 31 weeks in stores. Kelly wasn't the only artist on the chart to hit 2.5 million this week: Gwen Stefani's Love, Angel, Music, Baby scored more than 60,000 scans during its 32nd week on the chart, and crossed the 2.5 million line while taking Billboard's #9 spot. Country star Toby Keith's Honkytonk University caps off the top 10, edging out #11 finisher System of a Down's Mezmerize by less than 1,000 copies sold; Keith netted sales of just under 61,000, while System moved close to 60,000. Both albums first hit store shelves seven weeks ago. Charlotte, North Carolina, soul singer Anthony Hamilton's Soulife— an album recorded several years ago but unreleased until now — debuts at #12 this week, with sales of 53,000 and change. Country trio Rascal Flatts finish as the chart's #13, falling just shy of 52,000 — only 55 scans more than 50 Cent's The Massacre, which takes this week's #14 and simultaneously hits 4 million in sales.
