What's the point of getting all dolled up for the Grammy Awards if no one notices your outfit? Since not everyone can earn a nomination or score a performance slot, sometimes you have to make your own news by crashing the red carpet with an eye-popping outfit that is sure to get tongues wagging. It's anyone's guess what this year's attendees will be wearing on Sunday night at the 54th annual awards show, but MTV News will be camped out on the carpet for a full three hours before the festivities kick off and we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for all the outrageous looks and fashions. Click for photos of our most-shocking Grammy red carpet moments! In the meantime, we thought it was worth a look back at some of the legendary entrances from Grammys past:

Lady Gaga egg: Sure, Justin Bieber toted his pet snake to last year's show, but it was, of course, Lady Gaga who turned the most heads by getting carried down the carpet in a giant, see-through egg that she incubated in before emerging later in the night for her performance of "Born This Way." Britney gets bodied: Britney Spears has long prided herself on wearing what she wants, when she wants. But someone should have pulled her aside in 2010 before she exited the car in an oddball Dolce & Gabbana bodysuit overlaid with a lace dress that turned heads for all the wrong reasons. M.I.A.'s pregnancy chic: With her middle finger firmly tucked into place, the rapper/singer made her way into the 2009 show while nine-months pregnant in a cartoony, ruffled blue maternity dress and matching sneakers. Coldplay play dress up: It was kind of cool when Coldplay stuck with their bold Sgt. Pepper's-style suits for the whole Viva La Vida tour. But when they wore them to the 2009 show, it just felt ... silly. OK Go ... back to the drawing board: Viral icons OK Go are experts at drawing attention to their music with trippy, how-did-they-do-that videos. They drew mostly sniggers, though, when they donned matching brocade curtain-looking red-and-gold suits to the 2007 show. Their smartest move may have been to cover their faces with red cloth. R. Kelly, man of mystery: Kels has made a career out of being inscrutable , but his bold sartorial choice at the 2004 Grammys was, well, weird. From the neck down he wore an elegant three-button black suit and tie, but the matching Robin mask? Who knows? Alicia Keys gets funky: Nobody really knows what Keys was thinking in 2002 when she walked the carpet wearing embroidered jeans, sandals, a white tank and a sheer green sari-like shift with a built in, bedazzled headdress. Toni Braxton lets it all hang out: Sometimes it's what you don't wear that gets attention. In 2001, singer Braxton sported a barely-there white "dress" that hardly covered her assets with strips of material that dangled in the front and back. Jennifer Lopez's plunging neckline: Way before she was an "American Idol" judge, Lopez sent hearts racing in 2000 with her instantly infamous plunging neckline Versace gown. Chaos! Profanity! 'American Idol' Hollywood Week Gets Off To A Cutthroat Start

When it comes to "American Idol," everyone wants to go to Hollywood. But the euphoria from that Golden Ticket doesn't last long for contestants, as the slash-and-burn process of the notoriously cutthroat Hollywood Week takes hold.

This year, 309 contestants made it through to Hollywood, and the whittling-down process started immediately. Wednesday's (February 8) "Idol" focused on the beginning of Hollywood Week, when 68 contestants were shown the door by the end of day one. Among those going home was Jane Carrey, daughter of actor Jim Carrey, who failed to make much of an impression with her timid take on Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Lookin' Out My Back Door." Because of her family ties, Carrey was one of the most noteworthy contestants from the audition episodes, but the 24-year-old didn't make it far before feeling the wrath of Hollywood Week. Also cut was 28-year-old Ramiro Garcia, who was born without ears and whose version of "Amazing Grace" was a standout in the Galveston, Texas, auditions. He was dismissed along with 18-year-old Travis Orlando, the Bronx native who was cut at the same point in Hollywood Week a year ago. Standouts in Wednesday's episode included 23-year-old Johnny Keyser of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, who had Randy Jackson shouting, "Amen! Amen! Amen!" after his version of Amos Lee's "Dreamin' "; ladies man David Leathers Jr., the 17-year-old from Fayetteville, North Carolina, who doesn't look a day over 12 but had the judges and his peers alike applauding his impressive version of Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me"; Lauren Gray, the 23-year-old star of the St. Louis auditions who brought the house down with her version of Adele's "One and Only"; the unforgettably named Phillip Phillips, the 21-year-old who busted out "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" and moved one step closer to immortality; and 26-year-old Jessica Phillips — no relation to Phillip, at least as far as we know — who had the gall to do Whitney Houston's "All the Man That I Need" and pulled it off admirably. Other singers advancing included 22-year-old Heejun Han, who made up for the lack of confidence in his looks with his strong vocals on Michael Bolton's "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You"; 16-year-old Shannon Magrane of Tampa, Florida, daughter of former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Joe Magrane, whom Steven Tyler awkwardly dubbed "hot, humid and happening" during her initial audition; and 26-year-old Reed Grimm of Ellsworth, Wisconsin, who's been performing on stage all his life and showed it with a campy version of "I Got a Golden Ticket" from "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." The episode ended with a cliffhanger after 16-year-old Symone Black of Rancho Cucamonga, California, got woozy and took a scary spill off the front of the stage following her rendition of Otis Redding's "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay." Hollywood Week has enough drama without people collapsing off the stage, but "Idol" is making us tune in Thursday to find out what happens to Black and see if she makes it to the utter ruthlessness known as Group Round. On Thursday (February 2) night, Madonna will world-premiere a teaser for her highly anticipated new video on "American Idol." The preview of "Give Me All Your Luvin' " comes in advance of the clip's official Friday-morning debut. But if you think that the "Idol" judges are getting any special treatment and are seeing it first, think again.

"I have not seen it yet," Jennifer Lopez told MTV News earlier this week. "I'll see it with all you guys on Thursday." When asked whether she'd even heard any of the finished track, she further dished that she hasn't heard a thing — and that includes a leaked version of the song that hit the Internet last fall. "I hate when the demos leak," J. Lo added. "It's so unfair." Now that Madonna is in the "Idol" family, is there any chance she might come on the show to mentor the contestants before her album, MDNA, drops in March? "I don't know. I mean, that would be awesome," Lopez said. "And if it was me, she would be the one person I'd probably want to come and mentor me if I was a contestant on 'Idol.' " With so much mystery surrounding the track and the video, which also feature Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., MTV News got some exclusive insight into the vibe of the clip from its directors, Megaforce. "We said, 'Wow, it's quite interesting that it's a mix between these three artists.' They are not a part of the same universe for us," Raphael Rodriguez said of the Martin Solveig-produced track. "So it was interesting to hear this mix and different kind of music." He later described the video as "about happiness and something really sunny." Believe it or not, "American Idol" kicks off its 11th season Wednesday night (January 17), and for longtime fans of the show (like myself), it is a time of great trepidation. And not just because we've got nothing but auditions to look forward to for the next 354 weeks. Instead, rarely, if ever, has the future — nay, the very existence — of the program been as cloudy as it is right now.

I'm not about to float the notion that "Idol" may be on the chopping block; after all, it still pulls in massive ratings and is in about as much danger of being canceled as "CSI: Los Vegas" or whatever it's called. And it's already survived not only the exodus of Simon Cowell, but the addition (and subsequent subtraction) of several judges too. Rather, for the first time in its history, the show must not only compete with another budget-busting singing contest (that would be, of course, "The Voice," debuting after the Super Bowl next month), but it must redefine its relevancy. There was a time when "Idol" was capable of not only captivating the nation, but creating actual hitmakers, though, given the list of recent winners — Taylor Hicks, Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze — you probably wouldn't know it. And while you could chalk that up to the whims (and demographics) of "Idol" viewers, the gender — and relative lack of success — of the show's past few champs does raise a rather interesting point: If anything, "American Idol" has become a show antithetical to the current state of popular music, which has become increasingly dominated by female artists like Adele, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Rihanna. Tellingly, it's debatable whether any of them could even win "Idol" these days; after all, the last female champion was Jordin Sparks back in 2007, and since then, we've only had two ladies even make the finale: Crystal Bowersox and Lauren Alaina, neither of whom fit the current pop-star mold. If anything, "American Idol" has become a boys club, and while that club has certainly turned up a few gems along the way (Adam Lambert, David Archuleta), it has also very much worked to the show's detriment. Does that speak to an aging audience, the show's declining influence or both? Are the show's glory days behind it, or can it reinvent itself once again in 2012? Those are all weighty questions — ones that basically ensure I'll be glued to my set all season long ("American Idol" is nothing if not a rather fascinating social experiment, no?). Still, we're talking about a TV show here, so, in an attempt to provide some levity, here are my not-at-all serious predictions for the brand-new season. Accuracy not guaranteed, except for the Madonna one; I'm pretty sure she'll show up and call someone "reductive" at least once this year. So read on, fellow "Idol" aficionados," and hope my last prediction doesn't come true — even though I'm willing to bet it does. » Early in the auditions, I shall pronounce a bluesy, female singer with a rough-and-tumble background the legitimate front-runner, at which point my wife will discourage me from drinking while watching "American Idol." » Jennifer Lopez chokes a contestant after an ill-advised Marc Anthony cover. » A disheveled Lee DeWyze, covered in blood of an indeterminate origin, will stumble onto the stage and attempt to play his post-"Idol" single, "Sweet Serendipity," only to break down in tears and repeatedly shout "You did this to me" until he is removed by security. » In a shameless and ill-advised bit of integrated marketing, FremantleMedia teams with Lionsgate for a "Hunger Games"-themed episode, in which contestants, rather than being voted off, are shot through the heart with arrows. » Madonna will periodically make guest appearances just to throw shade at everybody. » In a stunning heel turn, Randy Jackson will lay out Ryan Seacrest with a vicious chair shot, pose over his fallen colleague, then remove his cardigan to reveal an "X Factor" T-shirt. » Steven Tyler: Now with 70 percent more dangly accessories. » In an attempt to spice up the show, "Idol" producers will force the top 12 to investigate paranormal activity at that haunted mansion from last season — you know, sort of like "Ghost Hunters" or whatever. » Despite mounting evidence to the contrary, and based on nothing more than blind fandom, I will predict that this is the season where "Idol" rediscovers its old magic and produces a champion who ends up becoming a genuine pop superstar. » A white guy will end up winning anyway. Mark Wahlberg always has a lot on his plate, juggling projects as both an actor and producer. One film he's been talking about for awhile now is "Cocaine Cowboys," a feature film based on the 2006 documentary directed by Billy Corben. And when Wahlberg stopped by Sway Calloway's "Sway in the Morning" Sirius radio show on Tuesday (January 10), he hinted at some major news. "We're waiting on the script. It's going to be sooner rather than later," Wahlberg told Sway's Shade 45 co-host, Devi Dev. "We're going to shoot that in Miami, hopefully in the summer or the fall."

"Cocaine Cowboys" follows the rise of the cocaine trade and the subsequent crime epidemic and drug war that swept through Miami in the 1970s and '80s. The documentary featured first-person interviews with journalists, lawyers, former smugglers and gang members, many of whom argue that the criminal operations behind the trade can be traced to one prominent figure: infamous crime family matriarch Griselda Blanco. Wahlberg, who has expressed interest in teaming up with his director buddy David O. Russell on the project, joked that Devi Dev might have a shot at playing "godmother" Griselda Blanco. But the actor/director also said the co-host would have stiff competition from a well-known actress who's very interested in the part. "It's one of those characters that will go down in history. Jennifer Lopez is chasing that [role] like crazy," Wahlberg revealed. "It's the role — if I could play Griselda, I would. That's Academy Award [bait] right there." Wahlberg and Devi also discussed the fact that whoever lands the Blanco role will have to forget about being pretty. Getting into character will require a transformation à la Charlize Theron's Oscar-winning transformation for "Monster." Jennifer Lopez certainly has had some big hits. Since releasing her debut album, On the 6, in 1999, J.Lo has commanded pop radio with tracks like "If You Had My Love," "I'm Real," "Love Don't Cost a Thing" and "Jenny From the Block."

And she hasn't stopped. This year, she released Love?, featuring club bangers like "On the Floor." Now, J.Lo plans to give her fans a proper greatest-hits album. "I just got the call a week ago that the greatest-hits album for Jennifer Lopez is coming up," vocal producer Kuk Harrell told MTV News. "Now I'm just waiting for them to put on the schedule [and] let me know what songs we're actually cutting and stuff like that." While he didn't have too many details about what fans should expect on the album, Harrell did share who else Jenny is hitting the studio with. "I think [when] I find out what the direction is, I will definitely go in the lab. I will get in the lab with Tricky Stewart and The-Dream and see what we can come up with for it." Harrell has certainly been busy this year. He worked with Rihanna on her Talk That Talk album, Justin Bieber on Under the Mistletoe (and will work with him again on his next album) and now has plans to hook up with Lopez. He's grateful for all the opportunities he's been given. "I'm so fortunate to be able to work with Rihanna and Justin Bieber ... and Jennifer Lopez for that matter, so anytime a call comes in to work with the three of them, it's always 'yes,' because it's just assumed [it'll be good]," he said. "They're superstars, so how are you going to turn them down? Unless we have a scheduling conflict, but it's always a 'yes.' It's always an immediate 'we're gonna kill it.' Sunday night's (November 20) 2011 American Music Awards were full of onstage collaborations, and one of the most entertaining was will.i.am, Jennifer Lopez and Mick Jagger's debut performance of "T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever)." In between two life-size stereos, Jenny from the Block kicked off the bass-heavy number with the song's chorus line: "You can go hard or you can go home." Shortly into the performance, you could tell this hitmaking crew clearly went hard. Utilizing the pitch-black Nokia Theatre and performance group Fighting Gravity's lit-up ensembles, will.i.am delivered a complete glow-in-the-dark performance that included floating dancers, a headless will and even a blink-and-you'll-miss-it disappearing act. Lopez played up her part as featured guest, and even though Jagger was missing from the action, the Rolling Stones frontman did appear via video for his portion of the dance tune. To conclude the number, glowing confetti filled the air. "T.H.E (The Hardest Ever)" is the lead single from will's forthcoming solo album, #willpower, which is expected to drop next year. Produced by Audiobot, Dallas Austin and will himself, "T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever)" was released on iTunes immediately after the AMA performance. On Sunday night (November 20), the music industry's A-listers gathered inside Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre to celebrate some of 2011's most memorable musical moments. It was a night dominated by chart-toppers like Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj and Jennifer Lopez. Minaj and David Guetta were the first to electrify the stage. The two stars joined forces to get the room jumping with their track "Turn Me On," which transitioned into Nicki's breakthrough hit "Super Bass." Maroon 5 were the first big winners, taking home Favorite Pop/Rock Band, Duo or Group. "This is our first one. This is crazy. I think in order to get one of these, you have to have loyal fans," lead singer Adam Levine said. Next up, Swift nabbed a trophy for Favorite Country Female Artist. After hugging pal Selena Gomez, Taylor excitedly accepted her award wearing a glittering gown. "I want to thank my band and my crew and the fans for filling up stadiums," she said. "And my mom and my dad and my brother who came with me tonight, and my fans who continue to amaze me." Sean Kingston was onstage to welcome his "true friend" Justin Bieber, whom he noted kept in touch with him continually during his recovery earlier this year. Bieber brought a little Christmas to the stage, performing his Under the Mistletoe song "Mistletoe."

The flurry of performances continued, including one from the Band Perry (who appear on Bieber's UTM) singing their crossover track "If I Die Young." Then 50 Cent took the stage to proclaim the following about Chris Brown: "You haven't seen this guy till you've seen him perform onstage. It's the main event." Brown gave the room a little medley, slowing it down with "All Back" then transitioning into "Say It With Me." Nicki Minaj took home her first award for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist. She was the only girl up against Yeezy and Weezy. "I didn't think I was going to win it," she told the room. "I have to thank God ... and Taylor Swift, wherever you are. I want to thank my Barbz. There's power in your peace. Hold your peace." Kelly Clarkson performed a big-band-inspired version of her song "Mr. Know It All" before Favorite Soul/R&B Album was handed out to Rihanna for Loud. In a pre-taped message, Rihanna said, "This means a lot to me. I love you guys. Thanks to all my fans." Enrique Iglesias took the stage with a little help from a marching band to perform his feel-good track "I Like How It Feels" then recalled his performance last year when he once again performed "Tonight." Jennifer Lopez followed up her fellow Latin superstar, kicking off her performance in a very diva way, complete with a flowing gown and wind machine, before kicking into high gear with "Papi," for which she changed into a sparkly, body-hugging outfit. For her third costume change, Pitbull took the stage with her for "On the Floor." Lady Antebellum locked in the prize for Favorite Country Band, Duo or Group. Leading lady Hillary Scott said, "We just want to say thank you to the fans. It starts and ends with you." Adam Lambert made his return to the AMA stage two years after his memorable (and divisive) debut performance, welcoming OneRepublic, who performed "Good Life" and had Bieber bopping his head from the audience. Then, Minaj was back again, winning Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album for Pink Friday. Swift handed it off to her before Minaj said, "This one can actually make me cry. I can't believe this is happening ... just chase your dreams," she told her fans. "Shout out to all the female rappers, past, present and future." Pitbull was joined by hypeman Lil Jon and Marc Anthony for "Rain Over Me" before Katy Perry took the stage. All decked out in pink, she embraced the sadness of her track "The One That Got Away" by keeping it simple and acoustic.

Immediately after performing, Perry was surprised with a special award of achievement for being the first woman in the history of pop music to have five #1 singles from one album. "Can I just say, thank you so much for letting me be a chameleon this year. I love you so much, and I also love my fans. I want to thank my band and all of the people who came out to see me." Hot Chelle Rae won for New Artist of the Year before J.Lo took it home for Favorite Latin Artist. "I'm shaking," she said. "I didn't expect to win. It's been a really amazing year in so many ways. It's been up and down. It's been exciting and overwhelming. I'm just grateful for all my blessings." Mary J. Blige brought some swagger to the stage for "Mr. Wrong" before paying homage to late MC Heavy D. "Rest in peace to my dear friend, the lovable, the great Heavy D. I miss you so much, brother." The Favorite Soul R&B Female Artist went to Beyoncé, who accepted the trophy from NYC. "AMAs thank you very, very much. I'm so excited about this award because it was voted by all of my fans, and I have the best fans in the world. Actually, you're the only people I want to thank." "Moves Like Jagger" brought Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera out, and their rollicking rendition of the bouncy party track had Swift and Gomez dancing in the audience. That transitioned nicely into Maroon frontman Levine joining Gym Class Heroes for their performance of "Stereo Hearts," complete with a big boom box behind them. Drake brought some fire to the stage with his track "Headlines," which had the house going wild, including his Young Money sister Minaj and Swift, who seemed to know all the words to the Take Care track. Bruno Mars won for Favroite Pop/Rock Male Artist. "I want to thank the fans," he said. "You all mean everything to me. I want to say hi to my family at home in Hawaii." Daughtry brought power rock to the show with "Back to You," and then Swift took home another award: Favorite Country Album for Speak Now. "I want to thank all the fans for remembering the lyrics and caring about lyrics," she said. "This is so amazing." Next, will.i.am took the stage with Jennifer Lopez for the premiere of his track "T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever)" for what turned out to be one very eye-popping performance, relying heavily on neon clothes and some assistance from Mick Jagger via video. Adele won for Favorite Pop/Rock Album for 21, however, it was Swift who took home the big award for Artist of the Year, bringing her career AMA total to 10. "This is one of the craziest things that has ever happened to me," she said. "Thank you so much to the fans. I have no idea. I didn't think this was going to happen. I love you, Selena, my little sister I never had. Oh my God! Thank you for everything." But that was hardly the end. LMFAO were the show's big finale, and they rocked out with lasers, their party-boy demeanor and lots of smooth dance moves as they hit the stage for "Party Rock Anthem" and "Sexy and I Know It." NEW YORK — On Monday night, some of the most prestigious and glamorous women in the world gathered at Carnegie Hall to celebrate the Women of the Year as chosen by Glamour magazine. Jennifer Lopez was the night's top honoree, and props were also given to everyone from Laura, Barbara and Jenna Bush to Chelsea Handler and "Glee" star Lea Michele.

"I'm pretty excited," Handler dished to MTV News on the red carpet. "I'm happy. It's fun," she added, before explaining what makes her feel glamorous. "Nice clothes make you feel glamorous; getting dressed up for the night. I've never really been one to care that much about clothing, if you haven't been able to notice. I'm always about your mind and being and clever and smart, so it's cool to kind of get dressed up and wear cool things." One of the night's performers, Theophilus London, was pretty stoked to be in the same room as some of the world's most beautiful people. He even had the perfect outfit to wear when he hit the stage. Check out red carpet photos from the night! "I woke up this morning [and] I kind of wanted to wear leather, but I want to wear something shiny and soft. I don't want to be too hot in Carnegie, so I found something. Shout out to Lanvin. I feel very privileged because they're very good designers," he said. London also shared his opinions on who he thinks deserves Women of the Year honors. "I think Michelle Obama is pretty hot and sexy. Actually, I think Debbie Harry is really hot and sexy. I'm doing a duet with her tonight. I'm pretty privileged, but I think J.Lo deserves it. She's from New York. She's always reinventing herself. She's hot and cute." Fashion designer extraordinaire Marc Jacobs explained that true glamour comes from the inside. "I think self-confidence makes a woman glamorous," he explained. "I think living by one's own rules makes anyone glamorous; living life to the fullest, enjoying and appreciating all the things that life has to offer, enjoying one's life," he added. La La Vasquez had a similar take on the art of being glamorous. "I think it's confidence. It's all about how you feel on the inside," she said. "If you feel confident, you can make anything look good, so definitely confidence." Cobra Starship frontman Gabe Saporta later joked, "Obviously reading Glamour magazine makes women glamorous, but I think glamour is about a girl who understands herself and has her own sense of style."

Jennifer Lopez has had a roller coaster ride of a year. In January, the singer took over one of the vacant judges' seats on "American Idol," scored a hit single with "On the Floor" off her album Love? a few months later, and saw her seven-year marriage to Marc Anthony come to an end in the summer.

But it seems 2011 will end on a high note for Lopez as she'll grace the December cover of Glamour's annual Women of the Year issue. Lopez is being honored as an "All-Star Woman" for her numerous achievements this year in television, music, fashion and charity. The singer/actress/fashionista was interviewed for the magazine by another inspiring woman, actress Jane Fonda. Lopez talked candidly about what she's learned about love and relationships over this past year. "I think I've finally learned the biggest lesson of all: You've got to love yourself first," Lopez says. "You've got to be OK on your own before you can be OK with someone else. You've got to value yourself and know that you're worth everything. And until you value yourself enough and love yourself enough to know that, you can't really have a healthy relationship." So does that mean Lopez is ready to date again? Possibly, but this time she plans to try to keep her love life out of the tabloids. "I think to give something a chance, to really get to know somebody, you want to do it out of the public eye," Lopez says. "You know the media — they want to rush everything." While Lopez's romances often make headlines, the "American Idol" judge has been also been known to turn heads with her style. "The things I liked when I was, like, 16 and in the Bronx — jeans, cut-up T-shirts — I still like," she admits. "But I've been exposed to so much now from traveling the world and seeing couture clothes," Lopez added. "I used all of that when I created my new line for Kohl's. My style has come from everything, from where I started to where I am today."
