Young Jeezy Opens Up About Rick Ross Beef

Young Jeezy's fourth solo album, TM: 103 Hustlerz Ambition, will finally arrive December 20, and on Wednesday (November 30), the Snowman joined Sway on "RapFix Live" to talk about the LP.

During their discussion, Jeezy opened up about his relationship and rumored beef with Rick Ross, explaining where things stand at this point. The contention between the two began in August 2010, when Jeezy released a freestyle over the instrumental to Rick Ross' hit "B.M.F." titled "Death B4 Dishonor." The song bore a few lines that were perceived as a dis, specifically, "How you blowin' money fast/ You don't know the crew/ Oh, you part of the fam?/ Sh--, I never knew." Later that year, Jeezy told MTV News that the song had been recorded even before Ross released "B.M.F.," but the rumors and slight jabs in the media have continued ever since. "With rap, it's a funny thing. You can say things, and people can take 'em the way they wanna take 'em," Jeezy said, addressing "Death B4 Dishonor." "But in my mind, in my heart, I just killed the verse. If I killed the verse and you took it personally, then that's on you." The Atlanta rapper said he isn't dwelling on any issues with Ross, despite things that have happened in the past. "I hear things; the streets talk. I'm hearing he reaching out to [Big] Meech and trying to get him to speak bad — that's my brother," Jeezy said of the Black Mafia Family drug dealer. "When you're trying to bring the streets into rap to prove a point, then you already lost. You separate the two, and that ain't to be played with. You've got people that lost their lives and people that are doing real time. If we gon' make music, let's just make music." Aside from those few lines on "Death B4 Dishonor," Jeezy said the issue spiraled thanks to a Web clip, which Ross perceived to be an additional jab at him. "I feel like the whole started thing from a clip on WorldStarHipHop, and my thing was, if I'm a boss and you a boss, let's sit down and be bosses," he said. "You take a clip that somebody edited and run with that? What part of the game is that? If you felt like that, hit me up, let's chop it up, we bosses." Finally, Jeezy said he didn't take things seriously after bumping into Ross at the BET Hip Hop Awards, where the Miami rapper declined to exchange any words with him. "I felt like it was about selling records," Jeezy said. "It' not about you about me. We could've stepped in the corner and chopped it up. It's not that Young Jeezy pulled a disappearing act since his 2008 LP The Recession. The Snowman has dropped a number of singles and mixtapes since then, but those releases haven't satisfied the thirst for his upcoming TM 103: Hustlerz Ambition. Jeezy's long-awaited album has been three years in the making, but the ATL trap star promises it will be worth the wait.

"I ain't the one for making excuses. I was always taught as a youngin by the OGs that you can't take your problems and make them somebody else's if you promised them something," Jeezy said about his album delay on Wednesday's "RapFix Live." "I went through a lot of trials and tribs and different things, but I gotta take that and endure that." Jeezy didn't clarify what those problems were, but he told MTV News' Sway Calloway that he had some real distractions that could've cost him everything. Still, the Snowman made no excuses — after all, he considers himself a mascot for the streets and one of the 'hood' 's chief motivators. "I was dedicated every day. I put out a few mixtapes because I wanted them to know that I wasn't being lax, or I wasn't comfortable," he said. "The Real is Back 1 and 2, Trap or Die 2: By Any Means Necessary, The Last Laugh, all of that was an effort to show them that I'm really working, and I was working on the album as well." In addition to all the free music he delivered his fans since 2008's Recession, Jeezy also joined Lil Wayne on his America's Most Wanted Tour and Jay-Z on his Blueprint 3 Tour. Ultimately, the "Put On" rapper just wanted to make TM 103 a quality album. "I just wanted to deliver something that was worth the wait, and that's what I feel like I've done," he said. The album is due out December 20, but a number of tracks already have been released, including the rambunctious "Lose My Mind" featuring Plies and the soul-baring "F.A.M.E." with T.I. Last month, Jeezy leaked "I Do," a metaphoric song featuring Jay-Z and Andre 3000 that talks about hustling in the streets and marriage in the same breath. Then Thursday (December 1), the Snowman leaked another track, the Eminem- and Freddie Gibbs-featuring "Talk to Me." The slow-rolling jam finds Jeezy rapping about his inner-most feelings, while Em eerily sings, "Somebody better explain why my ears are ringing so loud/ If someone's got something to say, grow some balls and say it to my face," on the song's hook. It might have taken a few years to finish the album, but Young Jeezy said that doesn't matter. "I feel like it wasn't time. I felt like I was being rushed, and one thing I was taught is you don't rush greatness," he said. It was all just a misunderstanding. After Young Jeezy appeared on Gucci Mane's 2005 track "Icy" but later refused to perform the record with Gucc, things between the two rappers got tense.

When the Snowman appeared on Wednesday's "RapFix Live," he revealed that what Gucci Mane didn't know was it was Jeezy's secret throat surgery that kept him from performing the record. "When I met homey, he was just a guy hanging at the studio and he was fan. And I took to him and 'cause I just liked the way he got down, he was always cool, he was always excited," Jeezy said of how he and Gucci first met. Jeezy — who was the hottest street rapper at the time — agreed to do "Icy" with Gucci Mane and even helped put the record together, he said. But soon after, he lost his voice, so when a request to perform the song came through to Jeezy's people, he declined without giving a reason. "Around that time is when I lost my voice," Jeezy revealed to Sway. "But nobody knew that I lost my voice but, like, maybe four of my homeboys. Def Jam didn't know, nobody knew. "I think they got offended, but he didn't know that I lost my voice and just had surgery and was laying on a deathbed not knowing whether or not I would be able to speak again." It is important to note that the two MCs have since called a truce. But before they made a peaceful resolution, Jeezy and Gucci traded subtle and sometimes not-so-subtle barbs on record. The drama even spilled onto the streets. "It just started then and turned into something else," Jeezy said. "I just felt like he was getting disrespectful about the situation because he wasn't being a businessman about it and understanding." Jeezy, who is set to drop his fourth album, TM 103: Hustlerz Ambition, on December 20, told Sway that he believed the media made it out to be more than it was. "It's over now. But for what it's worth, it was nothing," he said. In August, Gucci Mane had a similar stance when he sat with Sway on "RapFix Live." "On the strength of [the fact that] anything could have happened between not just me and him [but] between our camps, we just came to a sit-down of just respecting the fact that somebody can get hurt, and it ain't going to be us," Gucci said of the truce. "That's what made us do that." Don't expect a future collaboration between the former foes, however. "I think we should just stay away from that totally," Jeezy said. Every good artist knows the art of reinvention and in 2011, no rapper rebranded himself as effectively as 2 Chainz. Once known as Tity Boy from the Atlanta group Playaz Circle, 2 Chainz cleaned up his act with a name change and a tape to go with it. Codeine Cowboy established the underground ATL veteran as a hitmaker thanks to his infectious money ode "Spend It." When recruiting guests for his long-awaited TM:103 - Hustlerz Ambition, Young Jeezy called upon rap's heaviest hitters. Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, T.I., Andre 3000 and Fabolous all show up for the Snowman's latest LP, which was released in stores on Tuesday. One collaboration, however, stands out among the rest, so if "Trapped" featuring Jill Scott makes you hit the rewind button, don't worry, it was by design.

"I've been doing quote-unquote unusual pairings lately," Scott told MTV News on the red carpet at the "VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul" show on Sunday night. "I've worked with Paul Wall, I've worked with Eve and now with Jeezy." Scott and Paul Wall's "So Gone" from her The Light of the Sun LP is slow and sultry, while her collaboration with Eve, "Shame," is an upbeat yet soulful affair. Jeezy's J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League-produced "Trapped" takes a drastically different direction. At the song's open, Scott begins to rap over a building sound bed of lush strings. "Yo they still be grindin' or runnin'/ Tryin' to get into somethin' or nothin'," Scott begins her verse. Together the Snowman and the soul singer warn against the pitfalls of street business. By the time the drums drop and the full instrumentation takes shape, it becomes crystal clear that Jeezy is once again playing the role of thug motivator. Cautionary but real, Young uses a real-life narrative to illustrate his point. "Gotcha spendin' all your money on lawyer fees/ Judge throwin' numbers at ya like he speakin' Japanese/ All because a n---a out chea playin' bakery/ I'm out chea tryin' get this bread somebody pray for me," he spits in the song's second verse. It's not unfamiliar territory for Jeezy, who has been mixing street tales with a hustler's sympathy since his debut Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101. It's just this time out he approached it with a new twist. "It just made sense in a nonsensical kind of way, like why not? This is music, have fun, stretch it out as much as possible," Scott said. There's just no catching Michael Bublé on the Billboard 200 as 2011 comes to a close. The smooth crooner will top the charts once again next week thanks to his holiday steamroller, Christmas, moving another 467,000 units. In just over two months, MB has sold 2.4 million copies, giving him the second best-selling album of the year to date, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.

And though he's put up very impressive numbers in a short time, there's no way he can surpass 2011's chart champ, Adele, whose 21 sold another 399,000 copies, giving her more than 5.6 million in sales so far this year. Right behind Adele at #2 was the week's only new top 10 entry, Young Jeezy's long-awaited TM 103: Hustlerz Ambition. The rest of the top 10: Justin Bieber's Mistletoe (#4, 225,000), Drake's Take Care (#5, 131,000), Lady Antebellum's Own the Night (#6, 110,000), Rihanna's Talk That Talk (#7, 99,000), Nickelback's Here and Now (#8, 99,000), Black Keys' El Camino (#9, 92,000) and Now That's What I Call Music! 40 (#10, 88,000).

Just outside the top 10, people were clearly picking up copies of Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto as stocking stuffers, sending the album's sales up 85 percent to 85,000 and eight slots to #12 as it closes in on sales of 1 million. The only other notable new entry on the charts was Common's The Dreamer/The Believer, which will debut at #18 on sales of 69,000. Several top 20 artists got a serious double-digit boost in the run-up to Christmas, including LMFAO (up 85 percent), Mary J. Blige (up 75 percent), Florence and the Machine (up 101 percent) and Lil Wayne (up 93 percent).

Adele Starts 2012 Topping Billboard Albums Chart Once Again

New year, same story: Adele's unstoppable 21 sold more than 144,000 copies to claim the top spot on the first Billboard albums chart of 2012, easily outpacing Drake's Take Care, which landed at #2 with sales of nearly 72,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

As it approaches the one-year anniversary of its release, 21 — which was 2011's biggest seller by a huge margin — shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, with this week's numbers, it has now sold some 5.8 million copies in the U.S., making it the best-selling album since Usher's massive Confessions, which moved 7.9 million copies in 2004. Young Jeezy's TM 103: Hustlerz Ambition holds strong at #3 on this week's chart, selling more than 67,000 copies in its second week. Lady Antebellum's Own the Night is up next at #4 with sales of nearly 54,000 copies. And buoyed by the chart-topping success of single "Sexy and I Know It," LMFAO's Sorry for Party Rocking leaps from #16 all the way up to #5. Florence and the Machine's Ceremonials (sales of more than 47,000 copies), the Black Keys' El Camino (more than 45,000), Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto (more than 44,000), Rihanna's Talk That Talk (more than 42,000) and the 40th installment of the ubiquitous Now collection (more than 41,000) round out the top 10. The week's biggest debut belongs to Skrillex, whose new Bangarang EP opens at #19, with sales of nearly 24,000 copies. The Trent Reznor/ Atticus Ross "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" soundtrack makes its chart debut at #44, selling more than 14,000 copies. And, in a true sign that the holidays are officially over, Canadian crooner Michael Bublé's Christmas — which had topped the Billboard charts for the past two weeks — drops all the way down to #24, selling some 20,000 copies. 'Tis the season no longer. Adele's 21 was also the top seller on iTunes, followed by Own the Night and Ceremonials. "Sexy and I Know It" was the best-selling song, beating out #2 "We Found Love" by Rihanna and Bruno Mars' "It Will Rain."

Move over, James Cameron (and Celine Dion): Adele just landed her Sweet 16th.

Yes, once again the British belter's 21 album tops the Billboard 200 chart, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, marking the 16th (non-consecutive) week it sits at #1. The mark ties it with the soundtrack to the 1997 blockbuster "Titanic," which was buoyed by Dion's massive "My Heart Will Go On." Up next for Adele? Well, first, it's Billy Ray Cyrus' Some Gave All, which topped the Billboard charts for 17 weeks in 1992, followed by Garth Brooks' Ropin' the Wind, which was #1 for 18 weeks. Then, it's the 1992 soundtrack to "The Bodyguard," which, powered by Whitney Houston's takes on "I'm Every Woman" and "I Will Always Love You," spent 20 weeks atop the Billboard albums chart. Oh, and Elvis Presley's Blue Hawaii, which also spent 20 weeks at #1. Rarefied air, indeed. 21 sold more than 104,000 copies to take the top spot, easily outpacing the week's biggest debut, the David Crowder Band's Give Us Rest, which sold nearly 51,000 copies to open at #2. The Black Keys' El Camino holds strong at #3 for a second week, selling more than 36,000 copies and moving past the 500,000 mark in total sales in the process. Drake's Take Care (nearly 32,000 copies sold) and Snow Patrol's new Fallen Empires (nearly 31,000 copies) round out the top five. Young Jeezy's TM 103: Hustlerz Ambition is in at #6, with sales of nearly 24,000 copies, followed by Rihanna's Talk That Talk at #7 (nearly 22,000 copies), Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto at #8 (nearly 20,000 copies), Nickelback's Here and Now at #9 (19,000-plus copies) and the 40th installment of the ubiquitous Now compilation, which comes in at #10 with sales of more than 17,000 copies. Outside the top 10, there were debuts by Yo Gotti, whose Live From the Kitchen sold more than 16,000 copies to open at #12, Rebelution's Peace of Mind (#13, also posting sales of more than 16,000 copies), critical darling Lana Del Rey's self-titled EP (#20, nearly 14,000 copies sold) and the soundtrack to "Joyful Noise," which bowed at #21 with sales of more than 13,000 copies.

The "Rack City" remix video is shaping up to be quite the all-star affair. If Fabolous and Wale weren't enough for fans, Tyga went ahead and recruited two more rap heavyweights for the clip. Last week, the Young Money solider set up shop in Atlanta and invited T.I. and Young Jeezy to guest on his street hit and its upcoming visual.

"I heard the record, loved it, seen it go crazy in the club. I couldn't visualize it without a Young verse on there, so I just went ahead," Jeezy told MTV News from the video set. "The homey hit me up for the video, and we in the A-Town, we in the city, we here, turnt up." Usually, pulling features from such big names is quite the chore, especially for newer artists like Tyga. But already, the "Rack City" remix features some pretty notable MCs, with the Snowman and Tip just the latest to jump onboard. "I didn't think the song would be bigger than outside of L.A., because that's like an L.A. sound," Tyga said, "So to have two of the legends that I'm big fans of on the record is crazy." When talking about his decision to jump on the record, T.I. was as nonchalant as could be. "For me, I got reached out to. They told me to add my two cents in, so I did just that," Tip said. "When they told me the video was coming, I picked out an outfit."

During a separate January shoot for the same video, Wale joked about the influence Tyga's "Rack City" had on strippers. "I'm just happy that I can be a part of a record that's influencing and making so many young, ambitious dancers so much money," Wale playfully told MTV News while shooting the song's video down in Miami on January 13. Rick Ross is about his business. The Maybach Music boss has been involved in a few rap dustups, most notably with 50 Cent and Young Jeezy, and they may have taken shots at one another in their music, but Rozay says he hasn't taken any of it personally.

"Right now it's just all about me remaining creative, keep putting this dream team together. That's what I'm about and I think that's what everybody out there should be about, get your ones up," Ross advised when he spoke with Sway at a French Montana video shoot in Miami last month. "Success is the quickest way to kill the enemy." Rick Ross threw shots at an unnamed adversary on "Rich Forever," a track off his new mixtape of the same name. "Your sh-- pushed back 'cause it ain't buzzin'," Rozay rapped. He never actually mentioned Jeezy's name and in this age of subliminal rap disses, anything is possible. Still, the line did catch the attention of fans because of the multiple delays that the Snowman's TM 103 album faced. The Double-M Genius never mentioned Young Jeezy's name during the interview either, but when Sway specifically asked if he and the ATL trap star could sit down and work things out, Rozay was open to the idea if it was financially beneficial. "I'm always 'bout business; that's why I'm here. I haven't taken nothin' personal since I came in the game and I think if you in this business and plan on having longevity in this you shouldn't take nothin' personal," Ross said, noting that their differences never led to any physical altercations. "Ain't nobody stepped on my Jordans yet, not out here. As far as I'm concerned, bring that money bag, let's shake the world up, that's what Double M-G is about." The contention between the two rap titans began to take shape in August 2010, when Jeezy freestyled over Rozay's "B.M.F." instrumental, titling his version "Death B4 Dishonor." In the Jeezy version, the Snowman took exception took Ross' BMF (Black Mafia Family) shout-out, playing up his own real life ties to the reputed drug organization. There have been subliminal lines and shots thrown back and forth since, but not much more. When Jeezy appeared on "RapFix Live" in November, he wasn't against having a sit-down with Rick Ross. "I feel like the whole started thing from a clip on WorldStarHipHop, and my thing was, if I'm a boss and you a boss, let's sit down and be bosses," he said. "You take a clip that somebody edited and run with that? What part of the game is that? If you felt like that, hit me up, let's chop it up, we bosses."
